Sen. Matt Brass, a Republican, was first elected in November 2016 to a seat in the Georgia Senate representing the 28th District which includes Coweta and Heard, as well as portions of Troup, Carroll and Fulton Counties. Sen. Brass currently serves as chairman of Reapportionment and Redistricting and vice chairman of the Economic Development and Tourism Committees. Brass also serves as a member on the Education and Youth, Natural Resources and the Environment, , and State and Local Governmental Operations Committees.
Sen. Brass was raised in Newnan where he attended Newnan High School. After graduation, he joined in the U.S. Navy before attending the University of Georgia. After graduating from college, Sen. Brass served as Chief of-Staff to U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (GA-03).
In addition, Sen. Brass is active in his community where he is a member of the Newnan Rotary and serves on several local boards including Communities in Schools Coweta, Leadership Coweta, and was a past board member of the Coweta Community Foundation and the Newnan-Coweta Habitat for Humanity. He also serves as a Deacon at Newnan Presbyterian Church.
Sen. Brass and his wife Maegan have been married for 9 years and have two sons, Freeman and Archie, and a
daughter, Rinny.
